Version 1.02
<< Go back
This is the second release of Windows 1.0 from January 1986. It is a international release, as it was the first retail version to introduce support for languages and keyboard layouts other than English, and also the first to be sold in Europe. The number of disks increased to six, as the Utility disk (disk 3) has been split into sepparate Utility and Font disks. Aside from the additional languages and keyboard layouts (the latter can now be chosen during setup), some applications have also been updated to version 1.02. PIF files have been moved from the Setup disk to the Fonts disk.
Two distinct copies of this release exist. The only difference is in SETUP.EXE. In one copy it is dated 15th January 1986 like the rest of the files, while in the other it's dated 8th April 1986. It can't be confirmed at this time whether these are both actually retail releases, though neither contains anything OEM-specific. Only the English release is available at this time, though a German one has been confirmed to exist and other languages were probably available too.
