IBM did not endorse Windows immediately. Later it offered Windows 1.0 for its PS/2 line of computers. Version 1.04 was also part of the "Collegiate Kit" and "Personal Publishing System" SolutionPacs with additional bundled software, which were available as a complete system or an upgrade for existing computers.

This release comes preinstalled on two 3.5" 720 kB floppy disks and functions as a run-time. It is dated 11th May 1987 and appears to be based on the retail 1.04 release. However, it features VGA display and PS/2 mouse drivers, which can't be found in any other non-IBM release. The bootscreen appears to be standard, but it's not actually displayed.
