Version 1.01 for Zenith Z-100

Version 1.01 for Zenith Z-100

<< Go back

The Z-100 series was Zenith's original line of computers which were not PC-compatible, starting with the Z-110 model. It should not be confused with their later Z-100 PC models, such as the Z-150, which were actually PC-compatible and also ran MS-DOS and Windows 1.0. As you cannot run this release on a PC-compatible machine, a Z-100 emulator is required, but unfortunately, no such emulator is complete enough at this time to be able to run Windows 1.0 properly.

Another unfortunate thing about this particular release is that the files were copied from the floppy disks manually, thus original file dates were lost in the process. Like its Z-100 PC counterpart, this release also comes on five 5.25" 360 kB floppy disks, with separate Fonts and Printers disk instead of the usual Utility disk, and no Windows Write disk. Only a few drivers are included. There are two options for a pointing device - no pointing device or the standard Microsoft serial mouse, and only two options for the display - Zenith Z-100 Monochrome Display and Zenith Z-100 Color Display. Just like the Z-100 PC release, this one does not include Paint or Write applications. However, two sample applications from the SDK, PALETTE.EXE and PUZZLE.EXE, are included on the Applications disk for unknown reasons.

The bootscreen says Microsoft Windows Zenith Z100 Version 1.AX instead of the usual, and contains the following text at the bottom of the screen:
